For those who know me, you're aware I lost my best friend to an accidental drug overdose in 2019. It was a devastating experience, and I quickly realized the unique challenges of grieving a loss due to substance abuse.

The grief journey is complex. It begins long before the actual passing, with the constant worry, the fluctuating hope and despair, the sleepless nights, and the gut-wrenching moments of finding them unresponsive. The emotional rollercoaster of loving someone battling addiction is a grief in itself.

After my friend's death, I searched for support tailored to this specific type of loss. I encountered barriers, often being told support was for immediate family, not close friends.

That's why I've decided to create a safe space for others who have experienced similar losses. I'm starting grief support meetings specifically for those who have lost loved ones to substance abuse and addiction, or who are currently navigating the grief of watching a loved one struggle.

These meetings are not led by counselors or therapists, but by individuals who understand the unique pain of this experience. It's a place for shared understanding, empathy, and support.

If you're looking for a community that understands your journey, please join us at Capillary Wave Community for Men, 600 Brant Street, Burlington, Ontario L7R 2G9 on Thursday starting April 17, 2025 at 7pm. Just come in and join others that have experienced some of the thing you have.

The grief support meetings are another division of Sober Me.

Let's navigate this journey together.

Caroline
