CLOSET CLEAN UP
So how is your spring cleaning going? I have clients calling wanting help as they find theirs is just to overwhelming. If you are feeling overwhelmed, remember it can be a big job and does not always have to be in one day or weekend. I would suggest break it up into different projects and spread them out. This allows for you to not get discourage and want to quit. My suggestion would be to start in your closets and here are two suggestions.
1) Front door/ Mud room closets. I would pull out all your jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, footwear and separate items that you didn’t use this year. What was the reason you didn’t use it? Didn’t fit? Out of style? You don’t like it anymore? I would suggest putting them in a bag and donate them. You may find a few items that have sentiment, or they don’t fit but “maybe” this is the year you will fit into it. It is ok to keep a few items in these categories but if they are taking a large amount of space then maybe you can relook at is it worth keeping.
a. I would suggest store your winter items like sporting equipment, car scrappers, etc. into bins and label properly and remove and store into another area. If you don’t have much storage maybe a spare room closet or trade it for where your spring/summer items are stored.
2) Bedroom closets. I would suggest again to pull out all items if you have the room to do so. Use the bed and floor to sort out all clothing items, shoes, accessories, purses, and have a category for items that should not be in your bedroom closet. If you don’t have a lot of room, take out each item one by one and make a decision to keep, throw out or give away. Put your items back in by categories, work clothes, casual clothes, dress up clothes, etc. whatever works for you. Have an area for shoes, purses and accessories. If you have an accessory that you only use with one item. ( Eg: a scarf that you only use with a certain blouse, or a belt with a certain pair of pants) store the accessory with that item.
Tips:
1) When going through clothing items and you find items that are stained, ripped are just not donatable you can put them in a bag or box and label it textiles. Donate it to most drop off centres and they will recycle them.
2) Use hooks behind doors, on walls to help keep items like knapsacks, hats, helmets, sports equipment off the floors. With hooks it is easy access and easier to put away.
